Introduction
Since the founders of TSL introduced Orientation Imaging Microscopy (OIM™) in 1994; it has rapidly become a standard microstructural characterization tool in hundreds of universities and industry laboratories around the world. OIM™’s flexible data collection and analysis tools are unparalleled, and the capabilities increase with each new version of OIM™ software.

To ensure that both new and experienced EDAX EBSD users achieve the maximum performance from their systems, EDAX offers EBSD courses by EDAX's expert instructors. The EBSD OIM™ Academy is intended for current EDAX EBSD customers and for those intending to use an EDAX OIM™ EBSD system in the near future.

Course Contents
The EBSD OIM™ Academy focuses on the operation of the system to show (new) users how to collect reliable EBSD data for their research and customers. Each of the three course days focuses on a different aspect of EBSD data collection and analysis.

• Day 1:  OIM™ Data Collection 
               o   Crystallography and diffraction concepts used in EBSD
               o  EBSD pattern indexing
               o   Basic operation of the OIM™ Data Collection software 
• Day 2:  OIM Analysis 
                o  Representation of EBSD data
               o   Analytical tools in OIM™ Analysis
• Day 3:  Simultaneous EBSD and EDS  
               o   Combining EBSD and EDS data for phase identification
               o   ChI-scan mapping

Classes will be organized as tutorials, hands-on SEM -plus-EBSD operation, and computer classes. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own samples and laptops. The instructors will assist you in analyzing your sample data.

Facilities
In the classroom standalone computers with OIM™ and Delphi off-line software are available. The hands-on sessions will be held on-site at a digital SEM equipped with an EDAX Trident (EBSD, EDS, WDS) analysis system. The classes will be given by experienced EDAX personnel.

Language
Teaching material, classes, and other events will be in English.
