Introduction
EDAX Inc. is the leader in EBSD and OIM^TM analysis. Since the founders of TSL (acquired by EDAX in 1999) introduced Orientation Imaging Microscopy (OIM™) in 1994, it has rapidly become a standard microstructural characterization tool in hundreds of universities and industry laboratories throughout the world. The data collection strategies and suite of analysis tools in EDAX’s OIM software are unparalleled and offer a powerful set of characterization algorithms to the user.

To ensure that EDAX’s users achieve the maximum performance from their systems, EDAX offers a dedicated EBSD course. This course is intended for EDAX EBSD customers and for those intending to use an EBSD system in the near future. Participants are expected to have a minimal knowledge of crystallography.

Course Contents
In three days a wide variety of topics will be discussed including:
Basic crystallography concepts used in EBSD
EBSD collection hardware
EBSD pattern acquisition, material files, calibration and indexing
Simultaneous EDS and EBSD data collection
Phase identification
Advanced data processing
Classes will be organized as tutorials, hands-on SEM-plus-EBSD operation, and computer classes.

Facilities
In the computer classrooms a sufficient number of modern computers with OIM^TM and Delphi off-line software are available. The hands-on sessions will be held on-site at a digital SEM equipped with a combined EDAX Pegasus (EBSD & EDS) analysis system. The classes will be given by experienced EDAX personnel using excellent teaching material.

Language
Teaching material, classes and other events will be in English.

Venue
The EDAX Europe office is located in the city of Tilburg, in the southern part of The Netherlands. All course participants will be kindly requested to lodge at the Mercure Hotel, located in the center of Tilburg. Estimated cost  is €99 per night for a single room, including breakfast. This reduced rate is only valid if reservations are made through EDAX. Transportation from the hotel to the EDAX office will be arranged each day.

The city of Tilburg has a good train connection from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport and can also be reached from Eindhoven Airport. All participants will receive detailed travel information after registration.

Registration
Applicants can register with the on-line Europe Registration form link on the EDAX website or by sending a fax or email to the EDAX Tilburg office.

The maximum number of participants for the EBSD Course is six, and assignment will take place on a first come, first serve basis. All registrations will be confirmed as soon as possible, together with more detailed course information. A cancellation fee of 50% will be charged for cancellations three (3) weeks or less before the start of a course.

Costs
The registration fee for the 3-day EBSD Course is €1500,- excluding VAT. Included in the price is the course itself, all lunches and refreshments, transportation from the Mercure hotel to the EDAX building v.v., and one social evening.
