Mahwah, NJ - EDAX Inc., a leader in X-ray microanalysis and electron diffraction instrumentation, has introduced a unique way for users to increase confidence in their results through the use of the combined software tools that only the GENESIS EDS microanalysis software from EDAX can provide.
"Our GENESIS program is the microanalysis industry's leading software, and only through the combined use of HPD, VIP Quant Element Detective and Phase Cluster analysis can users be assured of 'Results with Confidence'," explains Del Redfern, Materials Characterization Product Manager for EDAX.
"As with many of our most recent software features, we developed our 'Results with Confidence' from direct feedback from current GENESIS users and other experts in microanalysis. At the heart of 'Results with Confidence' is our Halographic Peak Deconvolution (HPD) routine that allows users to visually see any mismatch between the actual acquired spectrum and a model of the peaks," he adds.
"Ambiguous peaks are visually displayed for easy clarification. After ensuring the confidence of peak identifications, our Element Detective package then allows the user to find missed elements that could be in trace amounts or small grains and inclusions, within an X-ray map that would normally be hidden in the summation spectrum's background. Once the new peaks are identified, they can be included in the maps" he notes.
"Our Phase Cluster program automatically identifies phases on completely unknown samples and builds phase maps and libraries. These phase libraries can then be used to identify the unknown sample. Through the collective use of these programs, a user can be confident that the data presented includes all of the elements correctly identified, and therefore provides 'Results with Confidence'," concludes Redfern.
