Tilburg WDS Course Agenda

3 Day Course Description

9:00 to 17:00 Tuesday & Wednesday
9:00 to 16:00 Thursday

For a better understanding of WDS/EDS software, three days are spent on advanced EDS and WDS. WDS should not be viewed as a stand-alone analysis technique, but should be used complementary to EDS.

Registration FormCourse Information

Day 1 Morning
WDS Theory
Basic Principles of WDS
Introduction
Type of WDS Spectrometers
- Curved Crystal Spectrometer (CCS)
- Flat Crystal Spectrometer (PBS)

Basics of WDS:
Explain/Show the three scan modes
Scan several elements in each mode
Intelligent scan
Show multiple element scans/overlay on EDS spectrum
Optimize Height for a new sample area; use fixed WD, then Z-Stage
Show the element configuration table, then how to edit it.

Lunch

Day 2 Afternoon

WDS Practical Mapping
Requirements for live mapping
Setting up a mapping

Running Quantification
Deciding on Standards
Multipoint Setup and use
Faraday cup use
Processing Standards
WDS Quant only
Combined EDS/WDS Quant
Stage list of points/auto-measure Faraday cup
Day 3
Mapping and Quantification-continued
Customer samples (could already be used for mapping/Quant on day 2)
Specific requests from customers
Q & A

Note:
For this training, customers are strongly encouraged to bring their own samples, either conductive or carbon coated, due to we do not have a low vacuum SEM. In case of WDS quantification, please also bring the standards either compounds, e.g. SiO2 for determining Si, or pure standards.
