EDAX Orbis Micro-XRF System
EDAX will host a free Micro-XRF Introduction and Demonstration
An overview of the technique and the tool will be given with an opportunity for attendees to run their own samples or work with samples provided by EDAX. Two hour time slots are available on a first come, first served basis.
Micro-XRF is an analytical technique, which produces results similar to EDS but with lower limits of detection than with EDS and the ability to cover larger areas than seen in the SEM. With little to no sample preparation, no sample degradation or structural change to the sample, it is being widely used as a replacement/complement to laser ablation ICP MS, PIXE and SEM/EDS or even synchrotron based XRF. It is also being used for specimens where the analyte is too small for bulk XRF.
Micro-XRF Capabilities and Considerations
- Qualitative and quantitative analysis
- No sample prep, no coating for charge build up
- Handles samples as large as a hand gun
- Analytical probe size down to 30m or as large as 2mm
- Limits of detection in the parts per million
- Non-destructive with no sample damage
- Complete elemental mapping, line scan, and spectral analysis
- Tool operation can be automated for ease of use
